There are many things to be spooked about this time of year, but the Wichester Real Estate market isn’t one of them!  As this North of Boston community prepares for the fun costumes and excessive sugar intake; I wanted to point out a few reasons why now is a great time to buy a home in Winchester MA!

You’ve no doubt been haunted by the tales of the horrific housing market, but with the national real estate market favoring buyers; it appears times are now showing merely a friendly ghost.  Below are a few highlights of reasons to buy a home now in Winchester.

1. You can get a great deal- Along with it being a buyers’ market; prices have come down a long way– about 30% from their peak, according to Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller Index, which tracks home prices in 20 big cities.

2. Mortgages are cheap- We’re seeing the lowest rates on record! You can get a 30-year loan for around 4.3%, which cuts what you would’ve been paying two years ago for Winchester by  1/5. If the housing market picks up, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll see these rates again.

3. You’ll save on taxes- You can deduct the mortgage interest from your income taxes and you can deduct your from your Winchester taxes. Many people will find that these tax breaks mean owning costs them less, often a lot less, than renting.

4. It offers some inflation protection- While it's not perfect, studies by Professor Karl "Chip" Case (of Case-Shiller), and others, suggest that over the long-term housing has tended to beat inflation by a few percentage points a year. That's valuable inflation insurance if you’re planning on staying in the North of Boston area long term!

5. Sooner or later, the market will clear- Demand and supply will eventually balance each other out. The population is forecast to grow by more than 100 million people over the next 40 years. That means maybe 40 million new households looking for homes. Meanwhile, this housing slump will work itself out. Many of the homes will be bought, and prices will go back to their previous state.

All this to say, the Winchester Real Estate Market is not something to fear!

As children come to your door dressed in the orange UNICEF collection boxes and asking for, not only sweet treats, but a donation as well; don’t be afraid to give generously.  The money raised goes to UNICEF’s life changing programs around the world; which means you’re helping to make a difference!
