Routine check-ups are not just for humans, pets, and vehicles, homes also need a good once-over every now and then as well. Often we pay most attention to the things within our homes.  Dusting, vacuuming, straightening out furniture and linens, but beyond the obvious, there are many parts of your home that may need a little maintenance.  Preventative measures can be taken so that a small issue does not become a big costly issue, as long as you are checking up on things throughout the year.

So what do you need to check, and when?

Gutters and spouts must be checked and cleared of any debris every six months or so.  If there is a storm coming, you’ll want to add this to your list of things to do in preparation!

Windows and doors should be checked within every six months, looking for any issues with the gauzing or caulking.

Basements or crawl spaces should be monitored for signs of dampness or leaks, as well as wood-eating insect damage.

In the yard, you’ll want to clear out any debris, fallen limbs, or wood pieces that may attract wood-eating insects close to your home once every three to four months.

In the kitchen, your refrigerator condenser, located on the back of refrigerator should be cleared of dust every three months.

More regularly; smoke detectors, water heaters, toilets and sinks, should all be examined once a month for any potential issues.
