One of the things I love about living in Winchester is the way this community bands together to help support each other and move beyond ‘self’ to a greater good.  This North of Boston town has much to offer in the way of great events, restaurants, beautiful homes and a great location, but to me the best part is the true community environment! 

As a Winchester Real Estate agent, I have the opportunity to brag about our town to people who are moving to the area!  I enjoy telling buyers what makes Winchester so unique and why it’s such a great place to call home.  It’s also exciting to hear their feedback after they’ve lived in Winchester and have been able to experience all that Winchester has to offer.

Springtime Gala of Hope

Saturday, April 9 from 7-11pm

- The Springtime Gala of Hope is a benefit even for Milan Moosavizadeh, a 16 year old Winchester High School athlete who suffered cardiac arrest last year during a soccer tournament.  Because there were no defribrillators on site, Milan experienced an extended hospital stay and is daily fighting to regain his sight, speech and the ability to move his body.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Milan Moosavizadeh Trust to assist the family in continuing care for Milan’s needs. 

The event will be catered by Neillios Gourmet Kitchen of Lexington and will also feature live music from The Allmighters jazz band.  A silent auction with items such as Bruins Playoff tickets, Red Sox Sky Box tickets, a Cape Cod getaway in East Orleans and other great packages will take place in hopes of raising even more funds for this important cause.  If you would like more information on the gala, please feel free to visit the Team Milan website.

Michael Dunleavy 5K Walk & Road Race

Sunday, April 10 at 1pm

- The 9th Annual Michael Dunleavy 5K Walk & Road Race is a fundraising event in honor of Michael Dunleavy who passed away at the age of eight due to a cancerous brain tumor.  The walk will raise money for other children who are struggling with cancer.  When Michael found out at that he had cancer, he spent the entire summer at his lemonade stand, selling glasses for $.25 in hopes of raising money for other children who had fallen victim to cancer. In 2003, the teachers and administrators at the Vinson-Owen School organized the first walk/race in his honor.  Since then, there has been a lemonade stand and run/race to continue on with Michaels’ desire to help other children. 

On Saturday, April 9, which would have Michael’s 17th birthday, the annual car wash and lemonade stand will take place at the Vinson-Owen school from 9:30am-noon.  On Sunday, the 5K Walk/Run will take place beginning at 1pm.  For more information about the 5K race and how you can get involved; please visit the Michael Dunleavy website.

I hope that you have the opportunity to get involved in one or both of these events this weekend!  These are both a great way to care for the families of these children and bring hope to others.  You can also experience the Winchester community spirit first hand!
